After rave reviews
from a multitude of diverse audiences and
presenters, The Kusun Ensemble
are on the last leg of their 7th tour
in the United States, performing for
you Wednesday evening July 9th
(their only show in Floyd this year) in an
informal but lovely
outdoor setting. This extraordinary ensemble will move
us with their
vibrant dances from the tradition's of Africa, supported by
some of
the most talented musicians from Africa’s rhythm and beat
culture....Ghana. The Ensembles director Nii Tettey Tettey is a
master
musician, composer and teacher of international merit, a true
cultural
ambassador for our generation. He conveys many treasures of
his homeland
through song and informative stories, as the whole group
of dynamic
performers keep audiences on the edge of their seats,
spellbound with a
powerful show. Blending the authentic sounds of
traditional instruments
with the exuberance of Ga “hilife” music and
the complexity of African jazz
with Obuobi Ashong on electric guitar.
This group continues to develop a
unique and innovative Ghanaian
sound, offering something spawned from their
culture most of us have
not yet seen. The tropical flavors of West Africa’s
music, dance and
culture will be on full display. This years show promises
something
special with a new team of dancers who are taking leaps and
bounds in
the right direction for a fantastic 2008
performance!
Released in late 2002, their 2nd and most recent CD “Nokoko”
a casual
Ga expression meaning “something something” which is in reality
something very special. Nokoko captures this new brand of music, and
can now be purchased at their shows, or ordered on line at;
www.kusunensemble.com. Their original CD
“Omanye” released in 1998 is
also available, and their 3rd CD is on the
way!
Represented by Winter Sun Productions of Floyd, Va., whose events
are
designed to provide a unique educational opportunity for people of
all ages. Winter Sun is committed to encouraging the study,
development, and spread of cross-cultural understanding through
music,
dance and workshops.
